I ran a filemon on my computer as I was opening the file and saw it was attempting to read and write a file located under C:\Documents and Settings\\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\6WBGVSLW\UKYNMWF7\Offline\e

There may be alphabetical subfolders in the Offline folder – search for the folder that contains file type you were trying to open and delete all the contents of that folder.

Open Windows Explorer and navigate to the following path: c:\documents and settings\username\local settings\temporary internet files\CacheFolderID Data Value\Offline (replace the Data Value with the actual value). The value may look like a random set of capital letters and numbers – Ex: \6WBGSLVW\LKYNMWF7. Type the Data value of the CacheFolderID into Notepad. Navigate to Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MSDAIPP and the folder should contain a CacheFolderID. Exit the browser and try to open the document again. Some files may reappear as these files may be what the current open window needs. Highlight all of the files and delete the files. Note the Current location that temporary files are stored. Temporary Internet Files and History Settings window will pop up. This applies to IE8 but other IE versions should apply.
